POSITION TITLE: Manufacturing and Assembly Process Engineer

REPORTING TO: Chief Engineer

SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· The Manufacturing and Assembly Process Engineer will be responsible for enhancing and supporting the fabrication, manufacturing and assembly process, including, but not limited to:

· Develop manufacturing and assembly strategies for all products and processes.

· Work closely with mechanical designer and other team members to spec out the manufacturing and assembly process for current and future products.

· Identify and solve production related problems, implement changes to manufacturing and assembly processes.

· Plan and conduct prototype and pilot production runs.

· Coordinate introduction of new products from Engineering into Manufacturing and Assembly.

· Keep an eye on the assembly area for daily efficiencies, while keeping an eye on "the lookout" for future overall improvements.

· Implement manufacturing, assembly and mechanical design engineering plans and projects.

· Utilize the computerized MRP process.

· Estimate costs, determine time standards and make recommendations for tooling and process requirements of new or existing product lines.

· Maintain records and reporting systems for coordination of manufacturing operations.

· Assist machine shop in the design of tooling and fixturing for assembly and machining processes.

· Train and supervise the Assembly Supervisor and Machine Shop Supervisor.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

The Manufacturing Engineer must have ten years manufacturing and assembly engineering experience, with the past five years of hands-on experience in the following areas:

Assembly of Commercial electro-mechanical type devices

· Assembly Cells and stations: develop, layout, specify equipment, build, test, troubleshoot, and maintain.
· Knowledge of assembly techniques, assembly tools (mechanical, pneumatic, electric) and tooling requirements. (PLC programming+)
· Knowledgeable with specifying and utilizing adhesives, adhesive tapes, epoxy, other one part and two part adhesives and lubricants.
· Able to specify and quality check components with the following processes: sheet metal stamping, plating, anodizing, heat-treating, de-burring, powder coating, and finishing.
· Training of assembly personnel
· Able to create bill of material, assembly instructions, and statement of work.
· Knowledge of Kanban, DFT (Demand Flow Technology) and other material control techniques

Project experience

· Able to bring a new electro-mechanical product from engineering design to production.
· Able to give input to design engineering to improve product for assembly and processing.

General knowledge of Machine Shop and General Facilities

· Machine shop techniques and practices.
· Selection of appropriate tooling and cutters.
· Knowledge of design and fabrication of fixturing and clamping devices
· (CNC programming is a plus+)
· Understanding of TIG, MIG and spot welding practices
· Maintenance tasks for all manufacturing equipment and Hazmat disposal.
· Assist in development of maintenance schedules/plans for machine shop equipment, hand tools, assembly, air supply system, oversee equipment record maintenance
· Recommend and justify manufacturing equipment

Administrative requirements

· Documentation, MRP system, general computer, CAD/CAM

EDUCATION:
Bachelor's Degree is desired: BS Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering is required. Master's degree in engineering is a plus.
