LOCATION:                 San Francisco Bay Area. This person will work from home, anywhere in the SF Bay Area, but will come into the San Ramon office for periodic meetings.

Moonstone seeks a Director of Web Development to lead the development projects, support client relationships, and supervise the development group.

SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
We realize that every interested candidate might not have all of the desired experience, but here is what we are looking for in terms of experience and skills… the more you have, the better!

Web Development:
  • Solve present and future challenges with existing and new website applications, configurations, architecture, etc.—Chief Guru Problem Solver.
  • Establish, maintain, communicate and facilitate fulfillment of Moonstone’s technical development principles, standards and procedures.
  • Design, specify (in detail) and direct the technical architecture for both client solutions and company assets.
  • Design and manage security technology for all hosted data (company, and clients) and equipment assets.
  • Direct solutions for major technical issues and development tasks for developers.
  • Keep up-to-date on technology changes that impact Moonstone’s business or strategic vision, and recommend enhancements to current Moonstone standards and technology.
  • Identify and implement ideas and recommendations for greater efficiency in development .
  • Fill “Crisis” development capacity requirements to ensure Moonstone’s meets urgent client demands.

Configuration Management:
  • Manage outsourced hosting provider relationships and performance.
  • Monitor and reconfigure server capacity (both storage and bandwidth) and site performance (including security) optimally for Moonstone and Client’s requirements. Monitor server error logs.
  • Ensure, manage and monitor data back-up processes and software support both Moonstones and Client commitments.

Business Development (in support of proposals requiring technical expertise):
  • Design technical solutions to fulfill the client’s business needs as necessary.
  • Prepare or validate project estimates for proposals providing the most cost-effective solutions for clients and prospects, while insuring accurate estimates.
  • Review, validate and enhance proposals, as necessary.
  • In unusual cases, develop technical proposals &/or actively participate in Client meetings providing the necessary technical expertise to deliver/exceed client’s expectations.

Project Management:
  • Track hours for assigned projects to ensure appropriate billing.
  • Ensure that the production team’s technical needs are being met so that they are functioning at their maximum level of efficiency.
  • Test technical functionality, performance, security and quality.
  • Communicate with client’s technical staff to consult on technical environments and specifications, when necessary.

Human Resources:
  • Help determine technical human resource needs
  • Lead and supervise web development team of employees and subcontractors (3-7 depending on work load). Staff will increase commensurate with business growth.
  • Draft and edit technical job descriptions.
  • Qualify technical candidates.
  • Coach and train new technical resources about company processes and procedures.


EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED:
  • 5+ years of experience in developing Web functionality, from sophisticated front-end widgets to back-end applications, third-party component integration, "data feed" integration, e-commerce solutions including catalogs, shopping carts and payment processor interfaces. 5+ years of software experience in developing web sites: .NET, PHP, HTML/XHTML, JavaScript.  (dot net) .NET is mandatory; PHP knowledge or familiarity is strongly preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in database configuration, security, design, and administration: SQL Server and MySQL.
  • Technical experience in managing remote Web, FTP, Database, and Web Reporting (Urchin) servers, office, PCs and associated networks, and server security .
  • Additional preferred skills: content management systems (CMS) (ideally Ektron, Kentico), PHP, MySQL database, mobile development
  • Small company experience preferred. Must be nimble, flexible and able to meet client’s changing requirements.

  • Exceptional written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Self-starter with good organizational skills and be able to work with limited supervision.
  • Ability and capacity to expediently manage multiple tasks and several long-term projects at once.
  • High performance standards with the ability to perform in a fast paced, high-energy environment.
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule, including evenings and weekends, if required.
  • Reliability and trustworthiness.


PERFORMANCE MEASURES:
  • Performance of Web servers: e.g. uptime, response speed, security.
  • Technical project tasks on-time and within budget.
  • Project resource satisfaction.
  • Reduced expenses from technical efficiencies.
  • Happy clients who ask us to do additional engagements.


EDUCATION:
Minimum of Associate's degree in a technology related area, such as: database design, internet technology, information technology.
