SENIOR DESIGN ENGINEER/DIGITAL BROADCAST TV, San Jose, CA

We are looking for a Senior Design Engineer to lead advanced product development activities in our Mobile Digital Television Development initiative organization.
As a senior member of the team, responsibilities include architecture, design specification, detailed design, and validation of mobile digital broadcast television tuner systems. The position is in San Jose.

THE POSITION

The position includes architecture, design specification, development, detailed design and validation of mobile analog and digital broadcast television tuner systems. As a senior member of the team, the candidate's responsibilities include all levels of broadcast tuner design including antenna, RF, IF to base band conversion circuits, analog to digital conversion, demodulation decoding of audio, video components, power conversion and power management as well as signal transport to the host system and required system, module or component level firmware. The candidate will support all design activities including:

  • Research and investigations of new and emerging technologies related to the broadcast industry such as ISDB-T, DVB-H, DMB and other emerging standards as they apply to the company's product lines.
  • Attend relevant industry forums, write white papers, and represent the company to pertinent industry standards organizations.
  • Architectural definition of mobile digital broadcast tuner products including interfacing with key suppliers and customers on future requirements analysis.
  • Antenna, RF, IF to baseband conversion, demodulation decoding of audio & video components, power conversion and power management as well as signal transport to the host system.
  • Establish validation and test laboratory requirements, processes and procedures as well as development of test tools, test beds, test cases, patterns etc. required for qualification of broadcast tuner products.
  • Module and system level builds of bread-boards prototypes Alpha and Beta level boards.
  • Actively participate in cross-functional design reviews and ensure consistency in functional design blocks across various target platforms.
  • Support transfer-to-production process including definition of specific product related production processes, test processes, diagnostics and RC/CA procedures.
  • Patent disclosures and applications.
  • Willing to work in a hands-on environment and have experience working in a highly matrixed, multi-site organization and able to work with a minimum of supervision.

    THE REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum BS in Engineering. MS strongly preferred.
  • 5+ years experience in television module, component and receiver or related product design.
  • Excellent knowledge of analog and digital circuit theory as applied to broadcast analog and digital television receiver and system design.
  • Well versed in broadcast television standards for video, audio and transport including such standards as NTSC, PAL, SECAM, ATSC, DVB, MPEG transports etc.
  • Direct experience with industry interface standards such as ITU-R, I2C, SPI, I2S and other high speed industry I/O specifications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Published white papers are a plus.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% both domestic and internationally.
  • Demonstrated ability developing test processes, plans and procedures for system, subsystem, module and device qualification of TV receiver systems.
