POSITION TITLE: Senior Structural Engineer/Project Manager

REPORTING TO: Vice President

LOCATION: San Francisco, CA (Financial District)

Our expertise is in the delivery of specialist engineering advice for complex projects in any region. With modern communication and design tools, we can deliver high-quality design to clients throughout the region, as already demonstrated in many interesting projects. We have developed an in-house non-linear software analysis to better model the response of buildings to earthquakes, saving our clients money and intrusive structure. Our company does things differently, by applying science and imagination with equal measure. We have been selected to work on some of the most prestigious projects in the region.

We are seeking two Senior Structural Engineers: one for our Residential Division and one for our Commercial Division.

SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the structural design process from inception through construction.
  • Perform structural design/analysis and prepare structural plans and specifications.
  • Issue specifications, data sheets, and other construction documents.
  • Review submittals, shop drawings and RFI's.
  • Coordinate the design of projects and supervise project engineering staff consisting of engineers, designers, drafters and other support personnel.
  • Perform building and site surveys; attend site meetings.
  • Serve as technical expert and primary interface with the client.
  • Provide the seal and signature of the professional engineer, as appropriate, ensuring compliance with all applicable codes, regulations, and ordinances.
  • Prepare high quality reports which are well written, technically accurate, and with clear graphics summarizing results.
  • Perform project management tasks including fee proposal development, invoicing, supervising technical staff, and interacting with clients.
  • Business development geared toward forwarding the overall goals of the firm in areas which are consistent with personal interests and strengths.
  • Technical experience in structural dynamics, failure analysis, retrofit design, etc.

    Additional Commercial Division duties:

  • Work with and support staff on projects ranging from historical renovations, rehabilitations, seismic retrofits, schools, and significant commercial work.
  • Creative conceptual thinking and experience in artistic engineering are prerequisites for the position as the company is renowned for design talent.
  • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously.
  • The projects range from medium to large size structures designed in all structural materials, including composites.
  • Be a mentor for junior engineers.
  • Contacts in K-12 educational structures a plus.
  • Master's degree preferred.

    Additional Residential Division duties:

  • Work with and support staff on high-end residential buildings of wood frame construction.
  • Experience must include structural design of multiple residential projects of several million dollars in construction costs.
  • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously.
  • Construction experience a plus.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Ability to represent interface and coordinate with builders and residential clients.

    EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Minimum of seven years of professional structural design experience of buildings.
  • Strong personal portfolio of design work.
  • Ability to coordinate design with other discipline leaders.
  • Ability to lead a large scale project and interface directly with client.
  • Strong theoretical background.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and latest structural analysis software including ETABS, RAMSTEEL, RISA 2-D, 3-D, MathCAD, SAP2000.
  • Proficient in the use of ACI and AISC design codes and specifications.
  • Business Development experience is a plus.

    EDUCATION/LICENSE:

    BSCE with an emphasis on structural design, ME may be an advantage
    Current California PE license. SE desirable (for commercial position)
